Redistricting Council Single Member Districts
Background on the redistricting process
Following the 2020 U.S. Census, the City is required to re-evaluate its single member district boundary lines based on demographic data provided by the Census Bureau. Under federal and state law, governmental entities are to evaluate their district boundaries so that the "one-person, one-vote" requirement is preserved. Additionally, the City Charter requires any changes to the district boundaries be adopted no less than six months before the next general city election.
Major elements of the project include an initial assessment report, establish target deadlines, planning of work/training sessions, hold public hearing, produce a set of geographical plans, and prepare the Council's plan for adoption.
