Appointment of Councilmember SMD 2

Councilmember Chris Boedeker was recently elected to the position of Johnson County Judge and will be sworn in on Jan. 1, 2023, effectively resigning his City Council Single-Member District Two (SMD 2) position. 

To fill the vacancy, the City Council is inviting interested and qualified persons willing to serve in this capacity to submit a letter of interest for Council’s consideration. The vacancy is for the unexpired term until the May 6, 2023 general election. 

City Council is scheduled to consider candidates at the Jan. 10, 2023 regular council meeting.

Qualifications to Serve

The qualifications for Councilmember SMD 2 are in accordance with the City Charter and state law:

    • A citizen of the United States;
    • A resident of the City for at least twelve (12) months;
    • Reside within the boundary of SMD 2;
    • Qualified registered voter of SMD 2;
    • Has not been determined by a final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote; and
    • Has not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities.
