Planning & Zoning

The Planning and Zoning Department processes development applications including subdivision plats, rezoning requests, specific use permits and variance requests. The Planning and Zoning Department staff serves as liaison to the Planning and Zoning Commission and Zoning Board of Adjustment.

Zoning Ordinance Update Open House Save the date

You’re invited to attend an upcoming Open House event to participate in the development of the City’s Zoning Ordinance Update.

The City is hosting the open house from 6-8:30 p.m. on Sept. 24, at the Cleburne Conference Center. Attendees will be able to participate in a public input exercise where your feedback will help the development of the update to the Zoning Ordinance. This is also a great opportunity to learn more about the city’s current Zoning Ordinance and ask questions with city staff and zoning consultants on hand.

The Zoning Ordinance helps shape the future development across the city. The last time the City’s Zoning Ordinance and map were updated was 1996 and much has changed since then. Cleburne has experienced significant growth and has evolved into the city it is today. The revised Zoning Ordinance will reflect both current and projected market and neighborhood conditions, as well as incorporate best practices for development regulation.

A member of the public who wishes to participate in the meeting may do so via the following options: 
  • In person: Complete a speaker/comment registration card and turn in to City Staff before the meeting begins.
  • Submit questions/comments online:  Complete a speaker/comment registration card found on the city’s website ( or by clicking here. Speaker cards received by 5:30 p.m. the same day will be distributed to the Commission for consideration.
