Robert O. Kelly, D.D.S., was elected as councilmember for Single Member District 1 in May 2008 and was appointed to serve as mayor pro tem in May 2012. Dr. Kelly was born in Midland, Texas and raised as an Air Force dependent. He graduated high school in Burkburnett, Texas and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas, Austin. He entered the Air Force Reserves in 1965 and served on active duty in 1969 at Altus AFB Oklahoma. Dr. Kelly went on to graduate from the University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston, purchased his home in Cleburne in May 1971 and started his private dental practice in August 1971.
Dr. Kelly is a member of the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, 12th District Dental Society, Member of the Academy of General Dentists, Texas AGD, Fort Worth AGD, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, American Academy of Laser Dentistry, past chair and president of the Fort Worth Academy of General Dentistry, and Texas Academy of Laser Dentistry. He is currently on the board and is a past chairman of the Jack T. Clark Foundation and is a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry.
Dr. Kelly and his wife, Suzan, who is currently the nurse at Smith Middle School, have two married sons and one married daughter: Bryan and wife Andrea, Scott and wife Kathy, and Erin and husband Graham. There are three granddaughters, Megan, Marin, and Jordan, and one grandson, Grant. Dr. Kelly and his wife are members of the First United Methodist Church, Cleburne.
