Criminal Investigations


The Criminal Investigations unit conducts in depth follow up investigations involving crimes against persons and / or property. After patrol officers take initial reports, the reports are forwarded to detectives for further investigation.

Members of the Criminal Investigations unit are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and are frequently called out/or notified in connection with major crimes. They conduct interviews of victims and witnesses, locate evidence, recover stolen property, and conduct interrogations of suspects and accomplices. They execute search and arrest warrants and make arrests. They prepare and complete the paperwork required to successfully file criminal cases with the County and District Attorneys.

They work closely with the prosecutors and court system to assure a successful prosecution of the case. They testify in court in relation to their investigation. Each member of the unit receives extensive specialized training to assist them in conducting in depth investigations.

  • Sexual offenses
  • Robbery
  • Theft
  • Burglary
  • Auto theft
  • Drug related crimes
  • Financial crimes
  • Crimes involving juveniles as suspect and/or victims
The Criminal Investigations Unit (CIU) is supervised by Sgt. Kelly Summey. Sgt. Summey has served with the Cleburne Police Department since June 2001. She currently holds a Master Peace Officer certification with TCOLE.
