In early January, our greens sustained winter damage caused by extreme low temperatures and high winds. This combination caused large areas of our greens to die, and not return for this growing season. After many phone calls with surrounding golf courses and meetings with USGA representatives, we have heard that many other courses are experiencing similar issues. This spring was unseasonably mild and growing conditions were not optimal until about 3 weeks ago. The greens are making great progress in returning to their normal excellent condition, but we are not satisfied.
We have already taken immediate action on repairing our greens by using all of our nursery sod. Large areas of our greens have been replaced with this sod, and are making a full recovery. To repair all areas necessary, we have decided to do a complete redesign on our putting green. By doing this, it will allow us to use 9,000 square feet of sod for use on other greens on the golf course, while making our putting green more functional. Our current chipping green will be used as a putting and chipping green, and we will re-sprig the putting green later this summer. To speed up this process, we have added 2 seasonal workers to our maintenance crew. This should allow us to repair our greens, and keep the rest of the course in the best condition possible for you to enjoy.
We have developed a discount rate structure that will be in effect until the condition of the greens improves:
