City looking to add truck routes around Cleburne

Traffic Downtown

The City plans to work with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to create routes for commercial trucks to prevent them from using the city’s historic downtown district and Henderson Street as a pass through.

The City Council expressed their support for establishing truck routes around Cleburne at its Jan. 22 meeting. The goal is to have trucks use highways 67 and 171 to drive through the city rather than Business 67/Henderson Street. This should reduce vehicle congestion and noise pollution while increasing the downtown’s vitality.

“This is the first step in trying to help some congestion not only downtown but through the Henderson corridor,” Mayor Scott Cain said.

Trucks that are servicing Cleburne businesses will still have access. The City will work with the TxDOT to establish the route and accompanying signage. Then the City will collaborate with the North Texas Council of Governments to notify trucking companies of the revised truck route.
