Splash Station’s 2020 season will be limited to the competition pool due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
City Council directed the aquatics center to open only the competition pool this summer, following a staff presentation. The other portions of Splash Station including the leisure pool, play area, and slides will remain closed.
When the competition pool does open this summer it will initially be limited to public lap lane swimming, swim lessons, and team swimming. City staff will continue to develop opportunities to expand the use of the competition pool for the public this season.
While Gov. Greg Abbott has allowed waterpark facilities to open at limited capacity not to exceed 25%, the State guidelines include other constraints including the closure of waterpark components that have interactive functions, such as child play areas. City Council deemed it not feasible to open the other sections of Splash Station based on operational limitations.
City staff is still in the process of hiring and training personnel and developing additional safety guidelines before opening. The City will have more information about Splash Station’s opening and usage at a later time.
