Railroad Museum Expansion Project finalizes design

The Cleburne Railroad Museum’s new expansion would include design elements that create a train station atmosphere.

City Council reviewed the latest update of the Cleburne Railroad Museum Expansion project at its July 28 meeting. The project aims to expand the museum’s space and enhance its usage and functionality.

The proposed changes would alter the museum’s layout to create a better experience. This includes an expanded lobby for displays and a multipurpose area that could be used for exhibits, classroom programs, speeches, and future collections.

The designers were inspired by historic and classic trains and train stations. One such example is apparent once visitors step inside. The entrance will have a new front desk and gift shop display area reminiscent of ticket stalls. Another example is redesigning the façade of the building with elements that resemble a Santa Fe box car.

Linda Wallace sits on the expansions committee and said the new designs, “reflect well the history of Cleburne as a railroad town from humble beginnings to the present.”

Now that the design is complete, the next steps are to bid the construction contractor with the plan to begin construction in October 2020 with a projected completion in summer 2021.
