The City of Cleburne received special recognition from the Texas Recreation & Park Society, as Hulen Park was one of only eight Texas parks honored in 2021 with a prestigious Lone Star Legacy Park designation.
A Lone Start Legacy Park is a park that holds special prominence in the local community and the state of Texas. To qualify for consideration, the park must have endured the test of time and become iconic to those who have visited, played, and rested on its grounds. Nominated parks must be a minimum of 50 years old. This is the City of Cleburne’s first award from Texas Recreation & Park Society.

Hulen Park is the first of Cleburne’s parks, and after 88 years, it is still the most frequented. Modern amenities such as Splash Station water park, pavilions, and playground coexist with historic elements to delight today’s residents and visitors. Hulen Park continues to evolve along with the growing City of Cleburne and remains one of the Cities’ primary gathering spaces. Hulen Park allows local resident and visitors alike to enjoy athletics, events, a playground, a trout stocked creek, a beloved antique steam engine, and simply the great outdoors. The variety of activities makes the park a source of great community pride.

To qualify for consideration, the park must have endured the test of time and become iconic to those who have visited, played, and rested on its grounds. Nominated parks must be a minimum of 50 years old and had to meet the following criteria:
- The property represents distinctive design and/or construction.
- The park is associated with historic events or sites.
- The park is associated with events specific to the local community/state.
- The park is home to unique natural features.
