[ARCHIVED] Winter Wonderland Exhibit Opens Dec. 2 at Railroad Museum

Walls Winter Wonderland

The Cleburne Railroad Museum will display a magical exhibit that will help get the community in the Christmas spirit.

Philanthropist and businessman Sam Walls was well known for the enormous and enchanting Christmas train village he created at his home each year. Courtesy of the Walls family and in Sam’s memory, the Walls Winter Wonderland exhibit at the Cleburne Railroad Museum will feature selections from that collection.

On Dec. 2, the exhibit will open to the public from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. during the Whistle Stop Parade. The exhibit will then continue Dec. 3-30 during regular museum hours.

Walls Winter Wonderland is a fundraiser for the museum’s model train layout, an all-volunteer effort that was led by Sam Walls. Admission is $2, but it is free for children under 3 years of age.

About the Museum
The Cleburne Railroad Museum opened on Feb. 11, 2022 and traces over a century of railroad history in Cleburne. In addition to being able to get up close to 400 historic objects and memorabilia, activities throughout the museum provide fun for the whole family. Visitors can travel to a magical world as they watch multiple model trains run throughout the HO scale C&JC Railroad.

Visitors can also enjoy the Layland Museum of History on the same downtown block, housed in a former Carnegie Library building dating to 1905. The museum’s popular Carnegie and Cleburne exhibit has been extended through Dec .30 and features the story of Andrew Carnegie, the building’s construction and its early years as a library.

Both museums are open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission to the museums is free, except for the Walls Winter Wonderland.
