The City of Cleburne’s newest councilman was sworn in at the beginning of the regular council meeting on May 23. Blake Jones officially took his place on the dais for the Single-Member District (SMD) 2 seat after winning the general election that was held on May 6.
Joseph Mims, who was the winner of the Single-Member District (SMD) 3 seat in the election, turned in his letter of declination on May 16. The submission of the declination letter means that Mims will not be accepting his position as an elected councilman.
Council approved Mim’s declination notice at the council meeting.
When there is a declination after an election, the sitting councilmember has the choice—by law—of continuing to serve until the vacant spot has been filled. Mayor Pro Tem Mike Mann decided to remain at the SMD 3 position until a special election is held on Nov. 7, 2023 to fill the seat.
More information about the special election will be listed on the elections web page when more details become available.
