Juneteenth was first recognized as a federal holiday in 2021. It commemorates the day slaves in Texas found out they were free—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.
The day was recently approved as a City holiday at the council meeting on May 9.
Please note that City administrative offices and buildings will be closed Monday, June 19 in observance of Juneteenth. Sanitation routes and emergency services will still be in operation.
Below is the schedule for sanitation services, parks and recreation facilities and the library.
