[ARCHIVED] City Continues Stop Sign Project to Increase Safety

Stop Sign

What do you do when you approach a T-intersection? By law, you’re supposed to stop. To increase driver safety and understanding, the City of Cleburne is continuing its initiative to install stop signs at those intersections all across the community.

Phase I began in 2022 and included installing stop signs at approximately 90 locations. Phase II, which began this month, will include stop sign installations at more than 230 T-intersections. The project is expected to be completed in spring 2024.

When there is be no official traffic control devices in certain areas, law still requires drivers in those intersections to treat the intersection as if there were an official traffic control device present.

Motorists and pedestrians may be unaware of this requirement, and this can create hazardous situations at intersections without traffic control devices. The City is installing the stop signs to lessen confusion and make drivers aware what to do.

Learn more about the project on the Traffic Signage Project web page.
