1.
How can I get housing assistance?
All households in need of rental assistance must make application when Cleburne Housing Agency (CHA) opens the waiting list. CHA will not accept applications when the waiting list is closed. CHA will make a public announcement in the newspaper and website when the waiting list opens.
2.
How long will I be on the waiting list?
It is not possible to predict the time it will take for someone to reach the top of the waiting list. The wait depends on the rate of turnover in the program and the level of funding provided by HUD. The wait may be as quick as 6 months and as long as 2 years.
3.
How do I check my status on the waiting list?
You may check your status by phoning Cleburne Housing Agency at 817-645-0937 between the hours of 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm; Monday thru Friday.
4.
How do I get a voucher?
Vouchers are issued to those who have reached the top of the waiting list and successfully attended a briefing. Therefore it is very important that you inform Cleburne Housing Agency of any address changes while you are on the waiting list. If you fail to respond to a notice or it is returned undeliverable, CHA will remove your name from the waiting list.
5.
What happens after you are issued a voucher?
After you are issued a voucher, you are responsible for finding a unit that qualifies for the program. Cleburne Housing Agency (CHA) will determine if the rent is within the program guidelines and schedule the unit for inspection. The unit must pass HQS (Housing Quality Standards) inspection prior to moving in and receiving assistance.
6.
How much will my rent be?
Cleburne Housing Agency will pay a portion of your rent directly to the landlord based on a formula established by HUD. You will be responsble for paying the remaining portion (based on your income) to the landlord.
7.
Why do you have to inspect my unit & how often?
HUD requires the unit to pass inspection before rental assistance can begin; all units must be safe, decent and sanitary.
Your unit will be inspected a minimum of once per year. There are exceptions that may be inspected more than once per year.
8.
What happens if my unit needs repairs?
You should contact your landlord and follow procedure for reporting repairs. If the landlord fails to respond, you may contact Cleburne Housing Agency at 817-645-0937.
9.
How long can I remain on the rental assistance program?
Current program regulations allow you to continue to receiving assistance as long as you are income eligible and remain in program compliance. You may lose assistance if your income increases to the point that your portion of rent matches or exceeds the full amount or rent or if you are terminated for program violations.
10.
What if I want to move?
Cleburne Housing Agency (CHA) requires a 30 day written notice to move; however before moving you must complete your tenant obligations under your current lease with the landlord.
