How to Report Program Fraud
What is Fraud?
Fraud is a false representation of a matter of fact--whether by words, conduct, or written statement and is a criminal act.  This housing agency is committed to aggressively pursue and prevent fraud among our participants, applicants, and landlords. 

You may report fraud activity to Cleburne Housing at 817-645-0937 or the HUD Office of Inspector General Hotline at 800-347-3735.

A few examples of fraud include:
  • Unauthorized occupants living in the unit without approval from CHA;
  • Participant/family has unreported income;
  • Participant/family has provided false documents/statements to CHA;
  • Participant/family subleases part or all of the unit;
  • Participant/family owns or has interest in the unit;
  • Landlord collects additional payments from the family not agreed upon in the lease;
  • Landlord knowingly accepts rental payments from CHA for a vacant unit;
  • Bribery / kickbacks;
  • Theft or embezzlement;
  • Forgery or alteration of documents;
  • Destruction or concealment of records / documents;

If you commit fraud to obtain housing, you could be:

  • Evicted
  • Required to repay overpaid rental assistance
  • Fined up to $10,000
  • Imprisonment up to five years
  • Prohibited from receiving future rental assistance
  • Subject to state and local government penalties
