Cleburne Police Department

Serving Since 1871

In 1871 the Cleburne Police Department was established as a town constable which later became city marshal. Today the department is a modern, progressive, full-service municipal police agency with an authorized strength of 55 sworn (civil service) officers, 30 reserve officers, and 20 civilian employees. The annual department budget is $8.1 million. We provide law enforcement services 24 hours a day, every day of the year to our residents, businesses and visitors.

Cleburne, the county seat of Johnson County, Texas, is on U.S. Highway 67 on the southwestern fringe of the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city's origin and growth can be attributed to its role as a crossroads and transportation center. The city has 35 square miles within its corporate limits and 102 square miles of extraterritorial jurisdiction. Its population of nearly 30,000 has increased 14.4% since 2000. Significant growth is projected following the 2014 opening of SH 121/Chisholm Trail Parkway, a 28-mile toll road from I-30 in downtown Fort Worth to US 67 in Cleburne. In November 2015 the city's voters approved a 1/2 cent sales tax to fund a $25 million professional league baseball stadium and retail/entertainment complex.

Our mission is to protect and serve Cleburne by delivering legitimate, consistent, economical police services that result in the highest level of stakeholder value and satisfaction. We strive to fulfill our mission through dedicated adherence to our core values: integrity, service, and excellence. We work in partnership with our citizens for the mutual purpose of promoting safe streets and neighborhoods, creating a community free from the fear of crime, and improving the overall quality of life. The Cleburne Police Department operates under a community policing philosophy committed to evidence-based policing and a high level of customer service.

Our vision is to be a world-class police department serving the best community in North Texas. In 2016, after a thorough external audit and review of our policies, procedures, facilities and operations, the Cleburne Police Department became the 126th Texas law enforcement agency to receive the prestigious "Recognized Law Enforcement Agency" award for voluntarily proving compliance with each of the 166 Texas Law Enforcement Best Practices covering all aspects of law enforcement operations, including use of force, protection of citizen rights, vehicle pursuits, property and evidence management, and investigative operations.
