Chief Robert Severance III (Rob) has served as Chief of Police for Cleburne, Texas since December 2012. He also served as Cleburne's Interim City Manager and Deputy City Manager during a leadership transition. Before coming to Cleburne, Rob had 22 years of "up through the ranks" experience with the Grand Prairie, Texas Police Department where he served as a commanding officer in every bureau within the agency.

Chief Severance has a Master of Arts in Professional Development (Management and Human Resources) from Amberton University in Garland, Texas, and a Bachelor of Arts and Science from Dallas Baptist University. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Texas State University's Certified Public Manager (CPM) Program, and holds Texas Master Peace Officer and Instructor certifications.

Chief Severance serves as a member of several civic and professional organizations including the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Victim Services Committee, the Texas Police Chiefs Association (TPCA) Professional Conduct and Ethics Committee, the Texas Strategic Highway Safety Plan Stakeholders Group, and the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) Criminal Justice Policy Development Committee. He also serves as an assessor team leader for the Texas Law Enforcement Best Practices Recognition Program, and an instructor for the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (IADLEST) and the Caruth Police Institute (CPI) at the University of North Texas at Dallas.

Chief Severance was awarded the 2014 Innovation Award by the Texas Police Chiefs Association for achievements in enhancing technology, reorganizing the department for greater efficiency, and implementing new programs.

Rob's family history stretches deep into Cleburne and Johnson County's pasts with relatives who settled here in 1872.
