This project is now completed.
Beginning Monday, August 1, 2022 FM 4 (Second Street), between Wilhite and S. Brazos Avenue, will be closed to traffic for a period of four to six weeks. The closure is required for a BNSF rail expansion project that requires the relocation of water and sewer lines that are located within the area of future rail construction.
“BNSF is planning a project to add an additional rail lines, which will require utility adjustments in the railroad right-of-way. This work requires a temporary closure of FM 4 to address the utilities, some of which are approximately 16-feet deep” said Public Works Director Jeremy Hutt. “The road is scheduled to be closed early August and the closure is expected to last between 4 to 6 weeks.”
A detour will be put into place that will route traffic using Kouns, Henderson, and Main/Caddo Streets to avoid the work zone. This will be a significant inconvenience for those who regularly travel FM 4 in this area. Every effort will be made to minimize the closure time. Message boards will posted on-site to notify motorists in advance of the closure.
To date, several other utility crossing locations have been completed, including Schaffer, Willingham, Kilpatrick, and Ramsey Streets. Crews are currently working at Chambers Street.
