History

Descendants of John Paul Bradshaw, Flora Lee Flippin Bradshaw, Mary Ann Bradshaw Like, Jerry Clyde Bradshaw, and Evelyn Fay Bradshaw Taylor, donated this quarter-acre of family land in 1998 to the City of Cleburne to be repurposed as a park.

Bradshaw and his son Kirby operated a lumber yard on the lot next to the two-bedroom frame home where John Paul and his wife Sarah raised three children. Decades earlier on this corner stood a neighborhood barber shop owned by Harry Parr and David Cannon.

The dedication of John P. Bradshaw Park was held in May 1998. Contributions of material, labor and funds for park equipment were given by the Evening Kiwanis Club, Boy Scout Troop 811, Ted Reynolds of Westhill Construction Company, First State Bank of Rio Vista, Clint Forrest, and Cleburne Boy Scout Patrick Ulbrich.
