The library received a 2024 The Texas Reads Grant from TSLAC and the IMLS. This program funds public library programs to promote reading and literacy within local communities.
Our grant program aims to bring awareness to the importance and benefits of reading aloud, provide information and resources for equipping, and offer modeling and interactive opportunities to practice reading aloud.
The goals of the Read Aloud Book Clubs project are:
·To bring awareness to the significance and importance of reading aloud as a means by which to promote and foster literacy.
·To provide resources and opportunities for families to access and experience reading aloud.
·To offer a space for community to form for likeminded people to gather and discuss their experiences of reading aloud, learn from each other, and create connections.
·To illustrate reading aloud and spoken stories in a public environment.
·To foster a love of reading with engaging reading activities.
·To supply families with curated read aloud selections.
The intended audience are parents, caregivers, families and children, in our community. from October thru April, The library will offer three new book clubs; Family, Juvenile, or Picture Book, limited to 5-7 family units. the library will give away copies of the title to keep, read together, and enjoy the read aloud, read together experience.
