FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 22, 2016
Cleburne, TX – On Sunday, November 20, 2016 at 02:20 am, Officer Chad Carter responded to a crash in the 500 block of North Nolan River Road. Only one vehicle was involved in the crash and the caller said the car was on fire.
As Officer Carter arrived, he immediately took action attempting to extinguish the fire. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was still inside and was unresponsive to Officer Carter’s instructions to get out of the car. When Officer Carter determined the driver was not getting out of the car, Officer Carter entered the car and was eventually able to remove the driver. The car was engulfed in flames within 4-5 minutes of the rescue.
Officer Carter’s actions demonstrate that there’s more to being a police officer than writing tickets and making arrests. Officer Carter put himself in danger to save the life of a citizen. All of our officers take an oath to serve and protect the citizens of Cleburne, and on Sunday morning, Officer Carter did just that.
The Cleburne Police Department salutes Officer Carter for his selfless act. He has been recommended for commendations for his actions.
The video shows Officer Carter’s actions that night. A portion of the video has been edited to protect the personally identifiable information of the driver and witnesses. The short clip following the pause shows the moment the Cleburne Fire Department arrives and the car engulfed in flames.
