Animal Services to abate buzzards with pyrotechnics

Cleburne Animal Services will carry out buzzard abatement in the area of North Buffalo between Heard and W. Willingham starting on Jan. 11.

Staff will be in the area from 4-6 p.m. every night for about a week to 10 days beginning Friday, Jan. 11, weather permitting. The process to deter the buzzards involves harassing the birds using pyrotechnics. This process usually takes about one week for the birds to completely leave the area.

Residents in the area may hear loud noises like fireworks. Animal Services asks residents to make sure pets are securely indoors as this type of noise tends to scare animals. Staff will begin abatement near the Police Department, 302 W. Henderson St., once the North Buffalo area is clear.

The buzzards are exhibiting normal roosting behavior but can pose a health hazard and are a nuisance. For more information, contact Animal Services at 817-556-8895 or Texas Wildlife Services at 817-978-3146. Buzzards and Buzzard Damage Management is available online.
