The City of Cleburne has introduced a new round of grant funding to support local businesses struggling through the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Cleburne City Council approved the continuation of the All Aboard Cleburne small business grant program at its Oct. 27 meeting. Businesses can apply to receive a one-time $5,000 payment for financial relief from economic hardship and lost revenues related to the on-going pandemic.

In order to receive the funding, local businesses must meet certain criteria:

  • Business must have suffered interruption of operations caused by required closures related to the COVID-19 pandemic. This may include, for example, businesses that close voluntarily to promote social distancing measures or that have been affected by decreased customer demand as a result of the COVID-19 public health emergency
  • Business must be located within the Cleburne city limits, established with the Secretary of State, and proof of ownership will be required
  • No non-registered sole proprietorships, home-based businesses, or nationally-based non-profits will be eligible
  • Business must have a physical location exclusively for commercial purposes
  • Business has been open prior to Jan. 1, 2020  and business interruption(s) shall have occurred after March 1, 2020
  • Business must be current on property taxes, if applicable
  • Business has no more than fifty (50) employees   (excluding restaurants)
  • Proof that business is currently open and operational unless mandated by executive orders to be closed due to COVID-19
  • National chains and franchises associated with a national parent company are not eligible

The program will continue until $180,000 is expended or upon other direction of the City Council. Grants will be awarded in two phases based upon demand and available funding, with the first phase being approximately $100,000.

The “All Aboard Cleburne” program was originally developed by staff and adopted at the April 28, 2020 City Council meeting with $300,000 in funding allocated from the Cleburne Type A Corporation to be distributed to local businesses in exchange for promoting Cleburne as a great place to do business.
