Animal Services to deter roosting vultures with loud, non-lethal pyrotechnics

Vultures roosting on cell tower

Cleburne Animal Services will conduct vulture harassment in the area of Prairie/Westhill and Buffalo/Wood beginning Wednesday, Jan. 13.

Harassment includes non-lethal use of pyrotechnics. Animal controller officers will be in the area between 4:30-7:30 p.m. nightly for 7-10 days. The process usually takes about one week for the birds to completely leave the area.

During this time there will be loud noises that are similar to fireworks. Animal Services asks nearby residents to make sure pets are securely indoors as this type of noise tends to scare animals.

The vultures are exhibiting normal roosting behavior but can pose a health hazard and are a nuisance.

For more information, please contact Animal Services at 817-556-8895 or Texas Widlife Services at 817-978-3146 or visit the Texas Wildlife Services vulture and vulture damage management webpage.
