Cleburne Police want community members to be aware of a possible scam where perpetrators pretend to be working for the City of Cleburne to get money from potential victims.
Police have received reports of people claiming to “work for” or “on behalf” of the City of the Cleburne. The common theme is scammers will make contact and say they provide a service such as cleaning property or trimming trees “on behalf of the City” or “contracted with the City.” They may say the service needs to be done in order to be in compliance with a City Code or Ordinance. They then state they can provide the service and demand immediate payment.
There are never any circumstances where the City of Cleburne will send a third party to your property to perform work and require payment on sight. The scammers will pressure you to make you feel if you do not allow them to perform the service you could be fined or cited.
If you are approached in this manner, always check with the City of Cleburne first. As always, you can call the Police Department non-emergency number at (817) 645-0972 if you have any questions or concerns.
