Fire Prevention Focuses on Cooking Safety

Cooking Safety Fire Prevention

In a fire, mere seconds can mean the difference between a safe escape and a tragedy. That’s why it’s important for the community to understand how to stay safe in case of a fire.

Since 1922, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has sponsored the public observance of Fire Prevention Week during the week of Oct. 9 to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire—making it the longest-running public health observance in our country.

Fire safety education isn’t just for school children. Teenagers, adults, and the elderly are also at risk in fires.

This year, the observance will be held Oct. 8-14. The 2024 Fire Prevention Week campaign, “Cooking safety starts with YOU. Pay attention to fire prevention,” works to educate everyone about simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe when cooking.

Cleburne firefighters will take part in various activities in the community to provide lifesaving public education in an effort to drastically decrease casualties caused by fires.

Use some of these resources to help educate yourself and others about fire safety.
