November Special Election Canceled

Vacant Council Seat

Due to there being no parties who submitted a candidate packet for the City of Cleburne’s Single-Members District (SMD) 3 seat, the City has canceled its upcoming special election. The election was scheduled for Nov. 7.

The seat became vacant after the winner of the SMD 3 seat, Joseph Mims, turned in his letter of declination before being sworn in after the May 2023 election. By law, sitting councilmember Mike Mann had the choice of continuing to serve until the vacant spot was filled.

The mayor pro tem will remain at the SMD 3 position until Nov. 7. After that date, a decision will be made about the interim status of the SMD 3 seat through the May 2024 election.
